چکیده

SPARQL queries can be represented in RDF in order to work with them as first-class citizen in Semantic Web applications. The representation used so far, SPIN SPARQL, closely follows the abstract syntax tree, but fails to directly capture the semantics and is hard to work with for query rewriting. Here a novel vocabulary based on SPARQL Algebra is presented. The adequacy of the language is empirically shown through a few examples.

Foundations of RDF Databases

The goal of this paper is to give an overview of the basics of the theory of RDF databases. We provide a formal definition of RDF that includes the features that distinguish this model from other graph data models. We then move into the fundamental issue of querying RDF data. We start by considering the RDF query language SPARQL, which is a W3C Recommendation since January 2008. We provide an a...

An Extension of SPARQL for RDFS

RDF Schema (RDFS) extends RDF with a schema vocabulary with a predefined semantics. Evaluating queries which involve this vocabulary is challenging, and there is not yet consensus in the Semantic Web community on how to define a query language for RDFS. In this paper, we introduce a language for querying RDFS data. This language is obtained by extending SPARQL with nested regular expressions th...

The necessity of hypermedia RDF and an approach to achieve it

This paper will give an overview of the practical implications of the HATEOAS constraint of the REST architectural style, and in that light argue why hypermedia RDF is a practical necessity. We will then sketch a vocabulary for hypermedia RDF using Mike Amundsen’s H Factor classification as motivator. Finally, we will briefly argue that SPARQL is important when making non-trivial traversals of ...

SPARQLog: SPARQL with Rules and Quantification

SPARQL has become the gold-standard for RDF query languages. Nevertheless, we believe there is further room for improving RDF query languages. In this chapter, we investigate the addition of rules and quantifier alternation to SPARQL. That extension, called SPARQLog, extends previous RDF query languages by arbitrary quantifier alternation: blank nodes may occur in the scope of all, some, or non...

GR4PHP: A Programming API for Consuming E-Commerce Data from the Semantic Web

Nowadays, large data collections are made available on-line for free. The liberalized data is predominantly accessed via Web services. The interaction with such Web services is facilitated by RESTful Web APIs and programming libraries that provide a convenient means for Web developers to build intelligent applications and mash-ups. However, for typical Web developers it is still hard to include...
